Google search engine & their limit

Posted on 20th August 2005 at 10:20 am

I just saw a feature on Sky News about Google and someone mentioned that Google has grown to its limit in the search engine marketplace and that’s why they have acquired other businesses and are about to sell more of their stock to raise finances, perhaps to buy more businesses.

I don’t quite agree with the bit about Google reaching their limit as a search engine. I have wondering why a lot of client sites have been getting dropped from Google’s search listings. On trying Google’s Sitemaps, I found that pages were coming back into the listings and pages that had stopped being registered at all were now being listed.

I think that Google and other search engine spiders should think more about why their original concept has deteriorated rather than just focusing on increasing their offering portfolio. At the end of the day (to date), if you ask people what Google is, I guess most people will say something on the line of a search engine or directory. If their search listings deteriorate, will the brand be able to sustain other service offerings.

Anyway, I thought I’d have my little say about the subject. I wonder what you think?… I must add some method for discussion to w-k.net.
