Excuse the mess!

I recently imported all the blog entries from my old site’s publishing system and now the site’s in a mess: Continue Reading »

The hold on Birmingham has been released.

I had created the Birmingham (UK) version of The InterPost mid last year and it was originally called “Birmingham Free Ads” and was planned to be released with some work done for the Council. However this did not happen, but The Council did express interest in such a system and other features as part of a push to make Birmingham digital.

Moving home and changing looks.

Now that I’ve got a good drive for my Set Forever concept, I thought I’d update the old logo with a new, but modest, one.

I’ve also installed Word Press on the main Set Forever site so that it has it’s own blog for news updates / what’s going on.

The first fund raising project.

After considerable thought, I have decided to raise funds to pay for the costs of looking after my gran at St Mary’s Hospice in Birmingham, UK.

Even though the hospice is a charitable cause and does not expect any funds from my gran or the family, I thought it would be very inconsiderate indeed if a donation was not made for their support to date and any in the future.

We, as a family (including my gran) can only afford to pay a modest financial donation, but I believe what they have given to my gran (and the family), since the consultants at the hospital discharged my gran in mid 2005 surpasses any figure that I could think of. Basically, I believe that my gran would not be alive today if it were not for St Mary’s Hospice.

Don’t underestimate those that you know and their abilities.

After many months of trying to find out how raised funds can be maximised (i.e. not unnecessarily taxed until they have been allocated to a cause), I got the answer from my regular accountant.

As I need to raise significant funds, I thought I’d ask the charities commission, the inland revenue and another accountant who deals with larger projects than I have managed recently. None of the individual sources had answers for me and simply referred me to the other sources. I went round and round in circles and gave up for a while whilst I had to attend to my gran’s needs.

It feels right to get back to an idea I had.

Alex Tew, creator of The Million Dollar Home Page raised one million dollars to help pay for his studies using a simple yet different advertising model on the Internet.

I then saw on his site that he had a break/holiday and was working out what to do with himself and all the interest that he had. Personally, I thought that he would do something much greater using his site and idea as a base, and he has done something, but I’m frankly disappointed that his next project (pixelotto) is more or less the same as the first but it effectively doubles the one million dollars advertising space amount into two million dollars with the extra one million dollars given (after all the advertising space has been sold) to someone who has clicked on one of the randomly selected adverts.

What’s going on with www.123-reg.co.uk?

As I now use an American company to register and renew domain names (apart from .co.uk domains) as they are cheaper, I transfer existing domains that need renewing to the American company.

However, to do this I need the AUTH CODE (Authorisation Code) from www.123-reg.co.uk in order to complete the transfer. But guess what?.. To get the AUTH CODE you need to call www.123-reg.co.uk on a premium rate number costing 50p per minute, or you can email them using their contact form but you usually don’t get a reply for days.

I called www.123-reg.co.uk about 20 minutes ago as I did not get a reply to a request using their contact form. The girl on the phone could not find my domain for a few minutes (that’s a good £1.00 plus income). I can’t understand why I could see the domain in my control panel, but they could not see it in my account ON THEIR SYSTEMS. When I pushed the fact that they were taking time and the call was costing me 50p per minute, guess what?.. The girl found the domain and said that they would send me the AUTH CODE by email.
