What’s going on with www.123-reg.co.uk?
Friday, March 16th, 2007As I now use an American company to register and renew domain names (apart from .co.uk domains) as they are cheaper, I transfer existing domains that need renewing to the American company.
However, to do this I need the AUTH CODE (Authorisation Code) from www.123-reg.co.uk in order to complete the transfer. But guess what?.. To get the AUTH CODE you need to call www.123-reg.co.uk on a premium rate number costing 50p per minute, or you can email them using their contact form but you usually don’t get a reply for days.
I called www.123-reg.co.uk about 20 minutes ago as I did not get a reply to a request using their contact form. The girl on the phone could not find my domain for a few minutes (that’s a good £1.00 plus income). I can’t understand why I could see the domain in my control panel, but they could not see it in my account ON THEIR SYSTEMS. When I pushed the fact that they were taking time and the call was costing me 50p per minute, guess what?.. The girl found the domain and said that they would send me the AUTH CODE by email.
What did I get?… a generic email about how to get the AUTH CODE. So I called them up again and got another girl. She got the domain name and then said “Oh. can’t connect” and put me on hold for a few minutes. That’s another £1.00 plus income.
Now it costs £2.59 per year to buy a domain name from www.123-reg.co.uk and if I and most people can get them cheaper from the American company, can you guess why you don’t get the AUTH CODE sent for days when using the online form and why they use a premium rate number for you to get an AUTH CODE and why they cannot access the information on your account that you can yourself so that they have to spend time looking for it and why they cannot connect to their own systems and put you on hold for a few minutes?!?!
Can you guess!
Good luck www.123-reg.co.uk and PIPEX (the owners).
