It feels right to get back to an idea I had.

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

Alex Tew, creator of The Million Dollar Home Page raised one million dollars to help pay for his studies using a simple yet different advertising model on the Internet.

I then saw on his site that he had a break/holiday and was working out what to do with himself and all the interest that he had. Personally, I thought that he would do something much greater using his site and idea as a base, and he has done something, but I’m frankly disappointed that his next project (pixelotto) is more or less the same as the first but it effectively doubles the one million dollars advertising space amount into two million dollars with the extra one million dollars given (after all the advertising space has been sold) to someone who has clicked on one of the randomly selected adverts.

Even though the incentive to win one million dollars is great and people will most probably click on adverts, I don’t think that the advertisers will get much more than awareness and some people may simply click on the back button on their browser on order to click again or simply close their browser window, and then wait to see if they have won.

Anway, I think I’ve expressed enough how I feel about Alex’s second project and I would like to tell you about my inspiration from Alex’s money raising idea. I knew I could do better and so about a year ago I created a fully automated system for advertisers to acquire advertising space and hence reducing staffing costs for managing adverts. However, events in my life prevented me from developing what I had started.

In brief, my grandfather was very ill with kidney problems, my grandmother was ill with cancer and as the only child and formally educated person, to a level of degree and change management, in the direct family (my wife excepted) I had to spend a lot of time working with doctors and my family to bring some sense of peace to our lives, as well as try to earn a living.

My grandfather passed away last year and I now feel that my grandmother does not have long to live so I am mostly busy looking after her needs. But the good thing is that my will to raise money for causes that I belive in has been strengthened with my experiences over the past few years and I feel almost ready (apart from not having the time that I need) to pursue and push my idea again.

I want to raise money for causes and conditions that have affected me (indirectly) and those around me during my lifetime.
That’s all I feel like saying for the moment. You can find out more at Set Forever.
