How Changing Web Site Page Names Affects Your Traffic

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

I changed how my website pages are addressed (i.e. the permalinks / URLs of the actual pages).

This meant that I had to get all the pages re-registered with the major search engines.

When the pages names were changed the traffic to my site when down to about 10% (read this) as the old page names no longer existed.

It has take about three and a half weeks for me to get the same level of traffic back to my site.

So please beware and be cautious when you change the page names on your site, but in the meantime be happy! :)
