WordPress 2.8.2 to 2.8.4 UpgradeTuesday, August 18th, 2009I’ve just upgraded the WordPress installation that runs this site to from version 2.8.2 to 2.8.4. I use the automatic upgrade feature from the admin section and for this upgrade it took about 3 minutes to upgrade using an average broadband connection. As the upgrade uses FTP and as I believe it happens between your server and that where WordPress upgrade files are stored, there isn’t a lot of your own bandwidth used in the upgrade process, so even if you have a dial-up or other slower connection, the automatic upgrade should not take much longer than a few minutes.

Upgrading from WordPress 2.65 to 2.7Sunday, December 14th, 2008After the recent release of WordPress 2.7, the next major release of the WordPress publishing system, I just found time to upgrade this site’s blog to 2.7. After reading the WordPress support articles, compatibility lists and support forums, I thought the process would have taken a few hours considering the number of WordPress plug-ins that I use on this site’s blog. But it took me about an hour (with a few cups of tea in between), and now I will tell you about my experience of the upgrade progress and how I think you should approach the upgrade.

Nobody is You. You and What You Know or Have is Unique to You.Saturday, December 13th, 2008I have just had a conversation with a contributor on the Set Forever forums about getting information published about a Project I am considering supporting on Set Forever. The trouble I have had in making it a live Project on Set Forever is that I, and you, both need more information about it to get a better feel for it.

My First “Cool” Google Website.Sunday, November 30th, 2008I have been working with Saathi Night for a few years and today I did a check of their ranking with Google. I am proud to say that searching for “saathinight” or “saathi night” not only creates the first listing on Google, but the seacrhes also create sub-links to Saathi Night’s website under the Google results.

How Changing Web Site Page Names Affects Your TrafficWednesday, October 22nd, 2008I changed how my website pages are addressed (i.e. the permalinks / URLs of the actual pages). This meant that I had to get all the pages re-registered with the major search engines.
