Early Innovation with Ace Coin Equipment
From February 1992 to April 1994, I was part of Ace Coin Equipment, a significant company in the UK amusement industry. The company consistently focused on maintaining its market leadership through strategic digital investment.
Embracing Digital Video Technology
Ace Coin Equipment made an early commitment to Intel's DVI technology, which offered interactive digital audio/video capabilities. The objective was to develop the next generation of fruit machines and quiz games, aiming to redefine player engagement.
My Role in Product Development and Design
My responsibilities centred on managing all interactive visual design and production requirements for the development team. This involved more than just visual creation; it required a deep understanding of the DVI technology's full potential. The goal was to design intuitive games that would strongly resonate with UK club games players, effectively using advanced technology for compelling user experiences.
Lessons in Process and User-Centric Design
This period provided critical insights into the importance of a structured, process-driven approach to visual design and production, particularly when integrating new technologies. It highlighted how a thorough grasp of technological capabilities directly influences the creation of engaging and user-friendly interactive solutions. Prioritizing the player's interaction and experience from the initial design phase was important.
Applying This Foundational Experience Today
That experience in pioneering interactive systems established a robust foundation for me in process-oriented design and technological integration. It homed in the lasting value of strategic visual development and a keen understanding of user interaction. I apply these lesson continuously to help deliver effective and intuitive solutions.
