When you are worn out, your body's energies can start running the wrong way. A walk that should lift you can quietly drain you instead, until you turn the flow back the right way.
That is the claim at the heart of Donna Eden's work on balancing the body's energies. Eden is an energy medicine teacher with more than twenty years of clinical practice, and she reports feeling these energies directly. Over ten thousand sessions she turned what she noticed into simple physical steps anyone can copy, with no special ability needed. The idea underneath it is plain. When your energies flow and cross over as they should, you feel vital, and when they scramble, even a healthy body feels flat.
So if you feel drained, wired, and stretched thin, these gentle practices give you somewhere to start. You can expect to take away:
- A quick daily reset that rebuilds your resilience from the inside
- A way to ask your own body what genuinely suits it
- A calm-down technique that settles a stressful memory in minutes
- Why tiredness can turn movement against you, and how to flip it back
None of this asks you to see auras or believe anything in particular. You do the steps, and you feel the difference.
Why your own energy is the lever worth pulling first
The most surprising claim in this work is also its foundation. Matter follows energy, so when the body's subtle energies are vibrant, the body is vibrant too. That flips the usual order of things. Rather than chase each symptom alone, you tend to the energy running underneath them. That is exactly what a short daily practice for steadying your energy from the inside builds in my free foundation course.
Eden maps this invisible layer into nine overlapping systems, and you need not memorise them to benefit. They include the meridians, the pathways that feed each organ, the chakras, spinning centres that hold emotional memory, and the aura, the protective field around the body. What matters for a tired reader is simpler. These energies are meant to keep moving and crossing from one side of the body to the other. Much of feeling well comes down to keeping that flow going.
Much of what I do in my own transformation and healing work is helping someone free up that underlying flow first. We tend to it before touching anything on the surface, because once it moves, the things sitting above it tend to ease on their own.
Reset your whole field in about five minutes a day
You gain the most from a short routine you can actually keep. Eden's Five-Minute Daily Energy Routine is a handful of gentle physical moves done in sequence. Its job is to settle and strengthen your energy field each morning, so daily stress has less grip on you. The steps carry playful names, and each is explained as you learn it.
They begin with the Three Thumps (tapping three points that wake up your energy) and the Cross Crawl (a slow marching move that restores the left-to-right crossover). Then come the Wayne Cook Posture (a seated breathing and limb-crossing hold that untangles scrambled energy) and the Crown Pull (drawing your fingers across your scalp to release pressure). The routine finishes with a gentle lymphatic massage, the Zip-up (sweeping a hand up your body to feel more protected), and the Hook-up (linking two points to feel centred).
Read like that it can sound elaborate, but in practice it is a few minutes of tapping, stretching, and breathing. The value is not any single move. It is the repetition, the same small reset every day, quietly building resilience so you are steadier before life even asks anything of you.
Ask your body what actually suits it
You can learn to consult your own body directly, rather than guessing from general rules. Energy testing is a form of the muscle testing developed within applied kinesiology. It gives you a quick way to ask whether a food, supplement, colour, or even a room is in harmony with your body right now. The principle is that something at odds with your body measurably weakens a tested muscle, so a strong or weak response becomes a simple yes or no.
What makes this genuinely useful is a claim most diet advice never makes. Nutrition here is treated as entirely individual. One person's nourishing food is another's quiet drain, and the same food can suit you one month and not the next. That reframes the whole search for the right diet. Rather than hunting for a universal rulebook, you learn to read the honest signal your body is already giving you.
This has a long-standing evidence base behind it too. Eden points to a 2007 review of more than a hundred studies of energy testing, including twelve randomised controlled trials, so this is a tradition being examined, not just asserted.
Settle a stressful memory in a few quiet minutes
You have a built-in way to take the charge out of a stressful thought. Modern life keeps the body's ancient fight-or-flight circuitry switched on almost all the time. That constant alert is what drains the energy your body needs for repair and steady mood. When the alarm fires hard, up to eighty per cent of the blood in your thinking forebrain can drop away to fuel the emergency. That is why you cannot think straight in a panic.
The calm-down move is beautifully simple. You rest your fingertips lightly on the two slight bumps on your forehead above your eyes, called the frontal neurovascular points. You hold them while you deliberately bring the stressful memory to mind for a minute or two. This draws blood back to the front of your brain, and doing it while you revisit the memory gradually teaches your nervous system that the old trigger is safe. It is a small physical act that lets you meet a hard moment without being swept off by it.
Turn your own movement back into fuel
Here is the answer to a frustration many tired people know well. Sometimes a walk that should refresh you leaves you more depleted, and there is a physical reason. When you are exhausted or unwell, your energies can start running straight up one side of the body. Instead of crossing over between the brain's two halves, they run in parallel, a state Eden calls homolateral. In that state the body works at under half its usual efficiency, so movement drains you rather than fills you.
The fix is small and physical. You tap the points just below the collarbone and do the slow Cross Crawl marching move to re-establish the crossover pattern. Once your energies cross over again, walking replenishes you the way it is meant to. It is a genuinely surprising idea, that tiredness can make exercise counter-productive until you reset the flow. The answer when you feel flat is not always to push harder.
Illness as information, alongside your medical care
This work asks you to change how you hear your body, and it is careful about where it belongs. Illness is treated as information rather than a moral verdict or a failure of willpower. A symptom becomes a message about where your energy needs attention, not a judgement on you. Just as importantly, the whole approach is offered as a complement to conventional medicine, never a replacement.
Eden is explicit that decisions about serious conditions and medication belong with qualified medical professionals. She describes energy work mainly as a way to build a stronger, calmer body, one that can better tolerate and recover from treatments such as surgery.
I have seen how much can shift once someone stops fighting their own body and starts listening to it. In one account from this tradition, a person carrying a kidney problem worked with steady remote healing over about a week. By the time they returned to hospital, the problem could no longer be found, a case you can read in this story of a health situation that quietly resolved. I share it not as a promise but as a reason to stay curious and open, alongside the care you already trust.
One practice, until it becomes a habit
The kindest place to start is one small daily practice, not the whole system at once. Pick a single piece, perhaps the morning Three Thumps or the forehead-hold for a recurring worry, and let it become a habit before adding anything else. Vitality here is built quietly, one gentle repetition at a time. It grows because you keep showing up for a few minutes, not because you overhaul your life in a weekend.
If a specific stuck pattern in your health or your energy keeps returning no matter what you try, you do not have to work through it alone. You can bring that exact drained-and-stuck feeling into personal transformation and healing work with me, where we look gently at what sits underneath it. And if you would rather begin on your own, my free foundation course opens with a gentle first practice for tuning into what your body is telling you. However you begin, the shift is the same. You stop waiting to feel better and start giving your body the small, steady signals that let it find its own way back to calm and vitality.
